engine blows - breather hose

Post by westy64 »

Hello,

I note that my engine is blowing very much through the crankcase breather hose linked to the carb air filter case, even at idle.
Is it always the sign of used piston rings ?
Or can it be normal on some high compression engines ?

thank you for your help.

Blowing air is normal, blowing smoke is piston rings

I should qualify it a little, the hose is recirculating air from the crank case and has an "oil separator", so "some" smoke is normal, if you are getting a heavy blue haze you have problems.

That's better .... as it's definitely not pure air, not blue smoke, but some air with oil vapor, when engine is hot.
I'll have the compression being tested soon, and it should say what it is...
