Fuel pump sound
Hi everyone - quick question regarding the fuel pump on an 81 FI. There isn't much soundproofing in the car, and when running I can hear the pump make a steady 'whine'. I never loose power, etc but have heard some people say that the pump should be silent. Am I heading towards a failed pump?

I have been listening to that noise for 18 years and had only one pump fail on me, I think it's normal.

Mine makes an audible noise too, with no problems yet.

Thanks guys. LIke I said it is just a steady 'whine' in the background. I can't hear it when I'm moving, just when I'm stopped and idling. Kinda like a mosquito in the background . . . . . .

100% completely normal.
That noise is a good noise -- means its working.
The frame and body of the car make a good amplifier for the pump noise.
