I need to replace my speedometer cable. Any insights, tricks, directions?

Not really. A bit fiddley getting it through the firewall and then getting the rubber seal in place.

The cable ends are different sizes.
If you try to put it in backwards, you could be under the car for more than
30 minutes before you realize the error of your ways.
Don't ask how I know.

The speedo connection is the hardest part. The late model cars use a clip connector on the speedo, where the early cars use a screw on. Do the speedo first before you go under the car. make sure you lube the cable well. I use stuff called tri-flow. available in a rattle can.

Re: Replacing Speedometer Cable
So I pulled the gauge plate to get to the back of the speedometer and it looked like it had just come loose. All this started when I had the master cylinder leak and had to loosen the brake booster to repaint. I must have pulled on the speedometer cable a little to hard. Anyway, it looks like it just went back in, although some of the plastic clips may have broken. It appears to be working.
