I think it is more Oxidation unless current was running through the part. yikes..

When you have dissimilar metals, and an electolyte, you do have electrolysis, with a current flowing.

I've seen a whole cylinder filled with that stuff on an engine that sat for a long time.

Wow, picturing what condition the block would be in, is that even salvageable?.....or should we say more like scrap metal salvage!

i've had such engines in past and aluminium parts just crumbled in my hands. not sure if it was just water or old type green antyfreeze that caused that though...
