I used Seafoam applied with a rag. Everything came off fine.

Sounds like a plan. Did you clean with the pistons in place? My only concern is having some of the carbon get between the piston and cylinder.

I just cleaned to tops of the cylinders (in place) and the cylinder head. I already added Seafoam to the gas a while back which should help. I think you can also add to the oil. It may reveal failing gaskets though because it cleans stuff out (from what I've been told).

Careful with the Seafoam. i would not add it directly into the carb, fuel injection or as instructed the brake booster line on our cars. Some in a full tank of gas helps clean things up. i can't tell you how many people blew a head gasket within 50 miles of adding seafoam with a direct concentrated line into the combustion chamber.

Applied with a rag sounds right. With that said. I use a little bit of sea foam annually on smaller lawn mower engines to preserve or re-energize the gas.
