yes.. there are four wires all together.... two on the +b side - one goes to the ignition, the other goes to the control module. two one the negative side - one goes to the tach, and the other goes to the control module. then there are the pickup coil wires which go from the control module to the distributor...
oh.. and the high voltage wire from the center of the ignition coil to the distributor...

am i missing something?

Do you have a GM style module?? Sort of rectangular with two male terminals on each end?? If so, it sound like you have it wire correctly. One statement you made confuses me (happens a lot) you said :
"the pickup coil wires which go from the control module to the distributor..."
Pickup coil wires should go from pick up coil to module. Both PU and Module are inside dist yes??

the pick up is inside the distributor and the control module is mounted behind the ignition coil. two long wires in a white plastic tubing go from the control module to the pickup coil. the control module is a gm style with two blades on each end

YOu're right, duh, could never find my electronic dist, no wonder we are having communication issues!!
At this point, change the pickup, good luck,

alright.. thanks again for the help keith.... i'll update once i get it in... i may have to wait an extra day or two before i can try it though since i ordered the vacuum advance module... if the new pickup makes it work, i'd rather already have the vacuum module in place to i don't have to take it off the engine again...
