I thought this would probably be a more appropriate place to post this.
I Have a 1976 124, it's been sitting in my garage since '97, I parked due to smog issues ( not having the money to address them) other than that it run fine.
Now I'm trying to get it on the road again, I've ordered tires, bought a new battery & put some gas in the tank, when I first tried to start it, the engine tried to turn but now (after replacing the battery) all I get is the starter motor clicking but the engine won't turn. I've tried whacking it with a hammer with no luck, I can't rock the car at all as all the tires are flat.
Whats my next move?

start cleaning all the big wire connection. battery, battery ground. If you have aftermarket battery clamps, pull those and clean the wire. pull the wires on the solenoid lug and clean them all. remember to disconnect the battery and keep the wires straight.

Can you hear the starter spinning? It could be a ground ring gear.

The starter motor just clicks, it tried to turn initially then seized?
Today I removed the spark plugs, poured a little Marvel Mystery Oil into each hole. Then removed the radiator and tried to turn the crankshaft using a 1 1/2" socket, no movement at all, but I didn't use too much force as I figured It would be better to let the oil penetrate first before using a bar. From what I've read, I should continue using this technique each day until the engine turns? Any suggestion appreciated.

ATF fluid is supposed to work well

I would put a pretty good amount of force on the crank nut and get it to turn. You can also peak inside cylinders down plug hole to see if any of em are horribly rusty.
If motor turn with socket, and still starter just clicks, test for power at big wire at starter while "clicking".

Thanx for the help guys, the engine broke loose today, after soaking with Miracle oil for about 48 Hrs. Changed out he spark plugs n' she fired up no problem! No Breaks!, took the wheels off (breaks not looking great, rotors scored, some worse than others, not sure how much scoring is acceptable?) replaced brake fluid & bled brakes, ( 1 bleed screw is broken off, anyone have any suggestion as to how to get the bugger out?

Likely going to have to remove the caliper. Drain the fluid and clean the screw with brake cleaner. Some have used heat, drill, easy out.... I will place a nut over the top and then weld that to the screw. The heat breaks the rust and then unscrew the offending bleed screw.DaveB7 wrote: any suggestion as to how to get the bugger out?
