This has happened to me three times over the last couple of weeks...thankfully without any conflagratory effects. The brass fitting pops out of my carb and spews gasoline everywhere. Apparently, this is a compression fitting. I had been planning to trek the 120 miles each way to FIAT Freak Out later this week. So, I'd like to know if there are any "easy" and high-probability-of-success fixes. I have a 1974 Spider.
Help!

Fuel line disconnects from carburetor
Re: Fuel line disconnects from carburetor
Steve,
First of all, congrat's on owning the BEST year Spider! You'll be parked near my '74, so be sure to say 'Hello'!
The fitting can be secured with loctitie, but most importantly, don't snug the fuel hose right up onto the body of the carb. Leave a little space, and clamp it tight. Sometimes the heat & cooling cycles will cause the hose to pull the fitting loose.
Have a great road trip, see you there!
(...and always carry a fire extinguisher!)

Re: Fuel line disconnects from carburetor
I have tapped the carb body and fitted a pipe-thread fitting. Some people also use safety wire for safety. The connection will still seep, but it won't fall totally out. These loose nipples have caused several engine fires on Spiders...
