Won't start

Post by sierraspider »

My 82 won't start first thing, then after it starts its fine until it sets overnight or for a long period. Checked battery 12,2 volts after sitting overnight. Just looking for a natural troubleshooting progression rather than going willy nilly to find problem.

Thanks fiatistas

How long does it take to start it in the morning?

If I give it a jump, right away, as it should. I live in Calif, so cold isn't an issue.

12.2V is a little low you should have more like 12.6V. I would have the battery tested to make sure it is good. If it tests good I would check for drains on the battery. Just do one thing at a time so you know what is going on.

the starter works fine if it is jumped after sitting, then if driven works throughout the day. the problem is when it sit over night.

you either have a battery that is getting long in the tooth and needs replacing or you have an electrical drain with everything off. you can test this by disconnecting the ground wire to the battery during the night and then reconnect when you start in the morning. if you still have the same issues, then replace the battery.
