New manifold cracked at weld

Post by Kingme2 »

My new exhaust manifold has a crack at the weld, less than 100km since install. Unsure if there was a small leak when first installed or not... Definitely different sound than original... Couple days in, progressively louder (my mechanic joked about my new Fiat V8 :-(

Today he showed me a crack that appeared to go as far around as I could see, right at the weld.

Is this repairable? Will it look ugly? Push for replacement? Thoughts?

Very crappy. Wanted to take car out on Sunday, for Pre-wedding photos with the soon-to-be Mrs and the photographer... And I'm already registered for a car show or the following weekend. :(
Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

pics? Usually the crack will be next to the weld. The metal can be crystallized at the crack, and pretty weak

Chris, awesome offer, thank you. The rest of the exhaust is custom, also... Stuck until I sort it.

Mark, yes, it is at all along the weld. I'm concerned about repairing it, and how safe it is to drive it until it is replaced (repaired?).
