Poor acceleration throttle response-lower rpm

Post by sierraspider »

My 82 FI just doesn't have much pull until about 3000 rpm, then it accelerates nicely. The throttle response is poor at lower rpm and it just doesn't have much power. New plugs, wires, cold air intake. Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

Thanks
Dan

You might check the ignition timing and make sure the AFM module flap is moving without restriction through its entire range.

sounds like the cam timing is off by a tooth

I should add that I installed new timing belt and car ran great, but I put in a K&N cold air intake system and the car has progressively run worse after running like a bat out of hell when first installed. Could it be the oil from filter gumming up AFM. Anyone else had this problem with this system?

The K&N air filter gets oiled?

The K & N filter is lightly oiled from factory. It is washable and is recommended to very lightly oil after wash (service)

Didn't know that. Does it appear to be clogging? That would explain a gradual decline in power and acceleration.

I only have about 200 miles on induction system and no dirt or gravel roads, but it's a good idea to check it out. Could the oil be affecting AFM. I know other fiatistas have put on this system and haven't mentioned oil fouling AFM. Anyway. going to check the usual: timing, wires, plugs (all with less than 1000 miles since new) idle screw and I'll post results.
