Hi,
I recently put the Fireball 3000 into my '68 spider. I will admit this is the first foray into any engine/ignition work. I'm quite a novice at car maintenance so i'm learning alot as i go. My question has to do with getting the engine running properly now that the e-ignition is in. I used the instructions and ensured that the spark was firing at the right time. the engine starts and runs but i want to dial in the timing and not sure if i'm doing it right.
If i set the timing to the 10degree mark the engine bucks around alot and will die out on me as well. if i advance it past 10degree, then it smoothes out and runs great. Is it ok to find the sweet spot of timing so that it runs well at around 3k rpm or should i be doing more diagnostic to see why the 10degree mark is making the engine run so rough.
To add to this, i want to make sure the fuel mix is correct too because i'm having a hard time discerning where that point is, any tips on getting that right?
Many Thanks
Peter

It should idle fine with 10 degree advance. Can you see it advance more as you rev it up? It should have over 30 degrees of advance over 3500 rpm.
Just to be clear: the large mark is 0 degrees, the next one is 5 degree advance and the last is 10. It has to be past this last one to idle well? Could it be that your idle speed is too low? When set at 10 degrees does it run bad, or is it just the idle that's bad?
To adjust idle mixture set the idle speed to 7-800 rpm and adjust the idle mixture screw to the highest engine rpm. The re-set the idle speed screw to get a 7-800 rpm idle.
