IDLING TOO HIGH
82 FI and motor just rebuilt and in car > She cold -starts & runs well ;Static and dynamic timing is right on 10degree mark; New air pipes so I don't think she's cheating and getting stray air form anywhere; Throttle stop screw is backed right off but still wants to idle at 1200 rpm and I can't get it any lower . What am I missing??

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
I believe to set the throttle plate you back it all the way off so the butterfly is fully closed and then adjust the screw so the plate is just off its stops. (just a hair open?) Then adjust the engine speed with the screw, think it has a hex head, on the intake. It is on the other side of the plate adjustment.
I had a ton of issues like you trying to get the car to idle properly, but eventually realized or found my brake booster was pooched and letting unmetered air in that way. You can block off the booster hose and try and set the idle perhaps if you are wondering. Also some will spray a little carb or brake cleaner around and of the joints or plastic intake hose to see if it will get sucked in . I did a baseline by spraying a tad into the air cleaner to hear the change.
Good luck
Chris

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
Make sure the cable is adjusted so that there is just a slight amount of slack when at fully closed throttle. It could be holding the plate open if it is too tight.

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
The 2 locknuts for the throttle cable BOTH go BEHIND the fork, NOT one on either side. It is counterintuitive, but that is the correct way they should be configured.

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
Yep, you can see it pretty well in this pic, the 2 locking nuts for the throttle cable are on the outboard side of the fork.

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
I think we have all done the throttle cable adjustment wrong at some point. Question, when you start the car cold does it idle normal and climb as the car warms up over 15-20 minutes of driving so you notice it at high idle when you stop? or is it right at 1200 rmp from the start?

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
Hi: It Idles hi right from the start . I hope to get some time with the car tomorrow and will check that the throttle valve is seating "properly closed". IS there anything I need to check in the AFM?

Re: IDLING TOO HIGH
Thanks everybody: The AFM flap was held open a few mm so I adjusted the rubber block and I didn't have enough slack in the accelerator cable evn tho the lock nut was right "in" Chris
