Ended up using a 2000 block from a carbed 1980, 1800 head, 1800 intake manifold, the 1438 exhaust manifold for a 4-2-1 combination, and a new 32/36 weber. I removed all the smog/emmissions stuff and used the transmission of the same 1980 spider. I put a picture below. It's almost ready to start. I still need to get a vacuum line from the charcoal canister to the intake manifold and get the radiator put on. can't wait to hear it running...

thanks vandor.... I ran into a snag tonight. In order not to have to modify for the bigger radiator i'm using the original early radiator and fan. The problem is that now the fan touches the alternator belt. I have to move the alternator to the passenger side, but I don't have a bracket.
