I've got the head off the block, and now I think I'll pull the block to clean it, change seals and maybe swap the pistons rings and bearings.
For an '82, shall I pull it with the tranny attached, or pull with the tranny? If I leave the tranny attached, can I clear the inner tie rod or does that need to be pulled as well? Any other tips and tricks?

I just replaced my engine a couple weeks ago.
I pulled just the engine and left the tranny in place.
It was pretty easy, as far as pulling engines goes.
If you don't have to pull the tranny for any reason, I'd pull just the engine block.
The major vendors sell the clutch alignment tool for just a few dollars.
That's a good investment for the re-installation.

It is very easy to pull the block with the transmission attached. With the head off, it easily clears the steering linkage.

Almost all the time I pull an engine I have to disconnect the steering center link to clear the flywheel. Very few times did I not have to.
If you do not need to replace the transmission, I would leave it in place.
If you leave the tranny it's a PITA to get the the upper starter bolt and upper bellhousing bolts (but mch easier with the head off).
If you pull it with the tranny it's a PITA to remove the shifter and the speedo cable, and it's a lot more work to lift it out.
So either way there will be tasks that aren't all that enjoyable
