Engine noise has me. I adjusted valves to .021 exhaust (cold) and .018 intake (cold). Compression 180 psi across all cylinders. Engine runs great but the clanky engine noise is puzzling. Check out my video and see what you think. Thanks.

Re: Engine Noise
If it wasn't making the noise before you adjusted the valves it may be worth your time to measure again. Second thought is to reconnect the hose to the air rail. I had a plug for the rail that backed out and made a similar sound.

Re: Engine Noise
Like was said, was it noisy BEFORE adjustment?? I would check valve adjustment again. Did you increase or decrease valve clearance?? Good news?? Doesn't sound like bottom end.

Re: Engine Noise
It was about the same before the adjustment. I had two exhaust valves that were .002 and .004 out of tolerance. I have adjusted and checked these valve clearances three times with the same I'm running high compression pistons and 300 degree duration intake cam. When I did the dry build I used clay to check for valve piston clearance and it checked good.
I havent been around any other modified Fiat TC it over twenty years so I dont remember what normal sounds like. I did see a YOU Tube post from Allison Automotive and their engine sounded some what similar. I'm not sure what the air rail hose is? The two valves in the center of the head are deactivated, just there for the emissions police. I'm running a Weber 34 ADF on a 1800 manifold.

Re: Engine Noise
"What normal sounds like" noise is tough on youtube, but really, your engine is not all that noisy. Without looking it up, aren't those clearances in your opening post greater than stock fiat??

Re: Engine Noise
I beleive those clearances are '79 placarded in the engine bay. My WSM showed some close numbers but didn't specify '79.
Heres a video of acceleration on you tube.

Re: Engine Noise
My $.02 is that it sounds "normal" My stock 1608 sounds similar and the 1800 I had before the same or close. It sounds quite good on the acceleration video IMHO.
Listened to video again and maybe its a hair more chattery than mine...but close
I adjusted my valves last December and the car runs as well as ever.
