79 2000 heat always on

Post by barnesjtsl »

My heater valve is never all the way shut. I have adjusted the cable and it still pumps out heat all the time.

Is there a problem with putting a small shutoff valve on one of the heater hoses? It seems to me that shuttiong off the flow at one of the heater hoses would be the same as shutting it off at the valve? I seem to remember some talk at one point that if one did this that the back of the engine block wouldn't cool properly?

Any way, if it is okay to put a shutoff valve on one of the heater hoses, does it make any difference which one?

Thanks,

John

sure the cable is not disconnected from the valve? or broken along its length somewhere?

Yes, I got under the dash and had my wife move it back and forth while I watched and it moved pretty well.

Thanks,

John, the heater valve can do the job fine. Check again to be sure it is closing fully. After replacing mine I Had to adjust the cable connection to get it to fully close. Don,t worry about the full open side, as you already know the heater works great . If you are sure it's fully closing then consider a new valve.
