Abrupt "shutdown"
Abrupt "shutdown"
...okay, our 75' spider project has been moving along nicely until...I put a new battery in a couple weeks ago just before the cambox gasket job ect. After a little while of tuning/driving/tuning she wouldn't start so...I checked the alternator and it was faulty. I put a replacement in today and she def "lit up" up a notch, the horn worked better, indicator lights were brighter...it makes me suspect that the alternator may have been bad during the test/tunes? Anyway, about 10 minutes into the testdrive with alternator...she just shutdown, all the guages were working, lights, fuel pump, glass-fuel was clear n' full. Tried again, turns right over but no ignition. (I didn't have meter with me....yet) so, we pulled the wire from a plug, stuck a screwdriver in it...placed it about an 1/8" fromground and didn't see/hear anything while turning over (points look great BTW). I got a ride to my house and grabbed my meter, turned on the ignition and the coil was "hot", I turned the key and, it started right up? Drove it home, drove it around the hills by my house (what goes up must come down and I live on nice hill/mountain) - After a good hour of driving without any issues, just pure fun...I am at a lost? Any ideas? - I also went through all fuses and I am getting 13.5v to the battery when it's running. Thanks!!!!!!
Re: Abrupt "shutdown"
Almost sounds like the ICU solenoid in the carb. Is it possible to cook the solenoid with the higher volts from the new alternator?
