sharp hesitation when accelerating hard

Post by sshanky »

Hi,

Since I've had my '69 spider, I've experienced an issue where the engine hesitates (i.e. briefly loses all power) if I depress the accelerator too quickly. If I slowly depress it, things are ok, but if I put my foot down relatively quickly (how you would do if you were starting from a red light, for example), it just hesitates, exactly as if someone reached over and turned the ignition key off and then right back on.

using some choke makes the situation much better, but I understand it's not good to keep the choke on.

Thanks!

I assume it's carbed! Typical symptoms of no extra fuel being supplied from the accelerator pump. With the engine off, remove the air filter cover and look down the carb. As you move the accelerator you should get a squirt of fuel into the carb throat. If not, replace the pump diaphragm.
