Finding TDC ***RESOLVED***

Post by kustom »

Ok, so I did something stupid, and now I need help finding TDC on #4 cylinder. Long story short, while changing my timing belt, I ended up turning the crank and cams without the belt on and now I don't know where TDC on #4 is. I I have Marks distributorless ignition installed, so I can't look for the rotor pointing to plug #4.

If you want the gory details... I changed the belt, and all was well until I noticed the intake cam gear was wobbling slightly. I put a wrench on the cam bolt to tighten it, and the gear slipped a couple of teeth on the belt. I don't know how I managed to do it, but somehow when I lined things back up I screwed up the crank and cam marks, so I think I have the crank out 180 degrees.

If the crank pulley is still on, you can just align the timing mark to the long one. If not, pull #1 sparkplug, put a drinking straw or something like that down the hole to the top of the piston. now you can watch the piston go up and down. #1 and #4 work the same.

the ignition is a waste spark, so it doesn't matter if it's firing on 1 or 4. Put 1 at tdc and line up the cams, then set the trigger unit according to the installation instructions

Thanks Mark,

Got it running great. That wasted spark system sure makes it easy!
