32 AFDA rebuild Q.

Post by garion »

Hi all... I rebuilt my carb today.. When I went to change the needle, well, the new one looked very different from the older one..

Image

The new needle/seat is on the left, the original is on the right.. Should I put the original back in?

For the most part, my carb looked fine, but I suspected that my accel pump was leaking, which lead to the rebuild...I suspected it, cause after the car sat for a while (a week?), it would be hard to start, as if no fuel was in the carb... Now It starts up, but won't idle below 1k rpms... Its late, so I'll start checking other things tomorrow, if I get a chance..

That's just a diff design needle/seat, it should work fine. But for the record, if I have a needle/seat that is not leaking, I tend to re-use it.
Most idle issues caused by plugged idle jets and/or idle soleniod issues (if you have one). Even after rebuild is easy to get a tiny hunk of debris in idle jet. Pull jet and clean, and check to see if soleniod click when wire plugged/unplugged w key on.

I'd say your original needle will flow more fuel, a good thing for high performance

Hrmm. Nothing on this car is high performance, other than the emissions removed... Once I get everything else sorted (still need to do shock towers, most stuff is on hold till I fix that), maybe I'll swap it back in..

Good call on the solenoid. Looks like its bad.. I know it worked at one point in time, which is probably why I didn't check it..
