Went for a drive last night. Car running well. Parked it in the garage last night. Got up this morning and decided since it was such a nice morning I'd drive the spider to work. Spider had other ideas...
Car: 79 Carb.
Went to start it this morning and it cranked and cranked; no go. Got out the starter Fluid it fired up then just as quickly died. I did that several times with the same results. Grabbed a flashlight looked down the Carb and pulled back the accelerator and watched gas stream into the carb. So it's got Gas and it had Fire (since it started on starter fluid). Needless to say the spider has the day off...
Any Ideas? Flooded? Fouled plugs? Using Starter fluid it will breifly run. Air Mix Screw?
I do think I have a bad diaphragm on the carb allowing the float bowl to drain back. So if it's been sitting for awhile I get out the can of starter fluid and that usually gets is going. But I've never had to resort to starter fluid with an overnight sitting.
Did I flood it???

If it started on ether, then it isnt flooded or if it was, that should have cleared it out. If you can see the pump jet work, then you have gas in the float bowl. I would look to see if a hose came loose or if you lost one of the needle valves or something oddball like that. with either of those, you would be sucking air and running a mix too lean to burn.

Hey Russ,
Thanks for the reply. I was thinking what you were saying but wanted to make sure my logic. I ran home at lunch and tried it again still no start. I backed out the idle mix screw, reseated it, and then backed it out 2 turns. Reached in, turned the key and the car started. When the choke opened up the car died. I adjusted the Idle Speed screw up and started it again. It stayed running this time. I did a real quick adjustment of Speed & Mix and off I went.
Not sure just what was going on. I'll spend some time this week doing a better mix adjustment but it seemed to be running pretty sweet on the way back to work.
Thanks for the help!
