Strong gas smell

My 1981 2000 runs great, but after driving it has a really strong gasoline smell. I can't seem to find out where it's coming from. Any ideas? thanks for any help

I had something similar and traced it back to a few loots nuts on the fuel guage sending plate on top of the fuel tank.
Also, the original rubber hose deteriate over time and will weep/leak. perhaps get under the car and wipe the fuel hoses and pull the carpet along the driver side to get at the fuel lines and run the car and see if anything develops.

Thanks I changed out sending unit, so I know it's tight, will crawl around under it tonight.

To tell you the truth, that is when I found some weeping around the seal. I had changed mine out as well but a few of the little nuts had backed off and then I saw some dampness, tightened up again (blue locktight) and good to go.
Also check the hoses on the injectors. Again they get tired with age and will weep. Wipe dry and run for a minute and have a look see or wipe a dry towel over all of them after running. If you do see some leakage, change them all out , bad place to have a leak with the starter right below.
