79 Spider 2000

Post by barnesjtsl »

Changed head gasket last weekend. Everything went well. Drove it a couple of days and it purrs like a kitten.

Drove it to work (32 miles each way). On the way home about 5 miles into my drive it started sputtering like it was out of gas then quit. I let it sit for little bit then tried to start it. It would fire a couple of times then not even try. It turns over strong, the electric fule pump is working perfectly. Took of the air cleaner cover and pumped the throttle and saw gas pumping into the carp.

I have a bad seal in the distributor. It is rather oily under the rotor. Could this be the problem? Everything else is looking good.

I ordered a seal today from Vicks.

Any thoughts?

Well, you need to check for spark, sounds like you have fuel. Don't guess. But just checking, good squirt squirt squirt right??

Check the wires from the magnetic pick-up under the distrib cap. They have a habit of being too long and rubbing themselves in half

Hot side of the coil post was crakced through and not making a good connection.

Can I go out and just match up the coil with any old cheapy one at AutoZone?

You want a high volt coil for electronic ignition but yes anything like that will work. I use MSD ones and they work great.
