Great to hear that it got there ok. Made kind of a jury rig frame to keep the valves off the bottom of the box.

Went to Columbus over Easter weekend to our daughter and son-in law's house. Spent most of the weekend putting up tile kitchen back splash, fixing stairs, and reinstalling some third floor windows ( no sill flashing) and making casings for the interior. New hous for them and a lot of work to do. Not much of a vacation for me, but I enjoyed the work and the family time.

Have Navy reserves again this weekend, so no car time until next weekend- slow progress with so many interruptions

Ya, more techron. Haven't really run it since I bought it last fall. Been sorting out minor issues first. We'll be doing a standard rebuild, nothing fancy at the moment. Want to see how this goes first before I start adding cams and big valves. Did buy Ralph's dual carbs as a start of upgrades, but won't be installing them just yet. I want to make sure I don't have other bottom end issues first before I start making wholesale changes/improvements.

update

combustion chamber , valve seat not real bad
Image

note step at valve seat to runner

Image

old spark plug thread insert, i will need to replace with proper insert, note only 30% thread coverage

Image

3 angle valve job and 2 angle valve cut, the seats will still be ground with stone, this is the first carbide cut
the valves will also be hand lapped and checked

Image

note, the head was last surfaced using a belt, i only use fly cutter (rotary broach) makes for a much better and acurate surface. the head is now in the cleaner. the valves first get a 30 deg cut, then a finish 45 deg cut.

WOW! Looks better already. It also appears that someone in the past did some less than satisfactory work on the head. So glad to have a caring professional do the work. It is certainly much appreciated on this end.

Amazing. I'm guessing it got overheated at some point. I found a second thermostat in the top portion of the head during disassembly. Will definitely be going back to just a single external. I'm having the heater core and valve pressure checked this week as it was disconnected. I'm sure I will need to replace something

Had a little time to poke around under the hood this weekend to start preparations for the head being reinstalled. Decided to go ahead and do all of the gaskets that I could easily get access to and see what I needed to order for additional parts. First on the list is a new tensioner bearing, then brake booster hose as well as a couple of others.

Does anyone know what size the radiator overflow hose is supposed to be? The PO had installed a hose OVER the old hose attached to the radiator. Guess it was just too difficult to cut that part off before installing a new hose - go figure
