Can't find the fuel filter
Can't find the fuel filter
Can anyone post a picture of where the fuel filter is on a 1978 Fiat 124 spider, please? It isn't evident near or around the carb, and I can't find it along the fuel lines from the tank to the engine compartment. Thank you!

Re: Can't find the fuel filter
On my 79, the filter is about 2-3 inches from the carb inlet. It may be possible that the fuel lines were replaced without a fuel filter.

Re: Can't find the fuel filter
Dang, I meant 76 if it makes a difference? Thinking that maybe my carb is all clogged up at this point...
Re: Can't find the fuel filter
Yea on my 76 there is one a couple inches away from the carb but there is also one at the inlet to the fuel pump.
Re: Can't find the fuel filter
I had thought that might be a filter.. I actually *just* changed my fuel pump.. It didn't really run afterwards, but it actually started again for a second.. My next steps are to change the fuel lines, clean the gas tank and rebuild the carb later this week.. Any other input would be appreciated.. after this, my entire fuel system (up to the engine) will have been redone.. would be worrying if it still isn't working with having replaced the entire ignition system AND the entire fuel system without results..
Re: Can't find the fuel filter
So, I ended up replacing the front fuel check valve with a nice big fuel filter and replaced the back check valve with a new one. Each of these steps caused it to run better!
I didn't realize what a big difference the check valves made, and it looked like they were fine until the new ones worked better! These only cost $3-$4 a piece and it's SOOO simple! I recommend that anyone reading this with a fuel problem change these out first.. it's cheap! =)

I think I need a check valve, where did you find them for $3-$4?FiatDavidFiat wrote:So, I ended up replacing the front fuel check valve with a nice big fuel filter and replaced the back check valve with a new one. Each of these steps caused it to run better!

Re: Can't find the fuel filter
The 76 used a combination fuel filter/regulator that was attached in front of and below the cluster of relays. Doubtful it's still there, but if it is you may want to bypass it. I was able to find an OEM still in it's original wrapping about a year ago from someone on the Mira forum, so there may be some still out there. But if the original is still there that may be a place to look.
