For the inside of the coolant jug put in coffee grounds and some water and start shaking. Cleans resivors real good. for the outside cleaner of your choice.

It seems as if the oil stains, etc are so embedded in the plastic that nothing will bring them out, but I guess I haven't really had a go at it yet. It is on the endlessly long list....

Check what this guy did
I read up a few places online (mainly euro-restoration sites) and came to a few conclusions...some people use sand, some use coffee,I decided to try cat litter twisted
so i dumped about a cup of kitty litter in the resov and sprayed the inside with a bunch of brake cleaner. shook it for abut 2 minutes and voila! super clean inside!
A little acetone/heavy cleaner on the outside and it's nice and clean.

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
seems like it is the brake cleaner action that does the chemical chore, with the added abrasion of the kitty litter, sand, etc. I will have to try this. Not wild about handling acetone though for the exterior, wish there was something more benign to use.

I had seen vinegar however, it is acidic and I do not want that near my system etc. We are going away for the weekend so I will keep you posted next week with any progress (photos as always).

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
I've used a couple of tbls of Cascade dish washer soap over night with hot water and in the morning the inside came out great. Outside, brake cleaner and scouring pad cleaned it up pretty good.

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
A week & one day later look what arrives Heading out to the garage right now to start the process. I'll keep you posted
Matt @ Vicks Autosport sent me the correct bushings
Looks like there may be a way to grease these in the future
Not sure I am willing to promote VAS at this time.

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
Was too frustrated to post on this yesterday The bottom fit as it should however, when it came to putting in the upper OMFG! Here we go again The holes all lined up as they should when it was out yet, when I went to put it in the upper control arm arrrrrrrrrrgh they would not fit or line up. Fast forward 4 hrs and I found a way for it to fit and will hopefully be completing the front suspension and new brake line this week in time for the long weekend
Photos to come later

Dang man, you're having so much trouble with these suspension parts! So sorry to hear it... Just keep telling yourself how worth it it will be after it's done.

WOW I am being punished for sure
Made it work VAS be damned
Did not paint coil due to weather
Seriously! Who the FAWK designed this failure?
In an attempt to save my last Koni I used what was supplied until this happened WTF?
Went back and used what was originally supplied
All done, just need to clean, add wheel, brake line and sway bar
Going to the gym to burn off the frustration

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
Had some free time today, had to re-do the brakes (small leak with the new washers) tightened enough to compress the brass/copper washers. Installed the wheel, torqued the upper pivot bolt & lower control arm bushings under load
Now when it came to re-installing the stock front sway bar some issues came up The first (this should come as no surprise with my current issues) was the lower control arm had a missing bolt
Then (for the life of me) I could not get my sway bar to fit properly with the new bushings installed
Does anyone know if it would be okay to leave the sway bar off to drive it to an alignment shop? I'll get them to give it a try
If anyone is in the Ottawa area I would love some help/advice as this is all I need to get Fiona on the road for this season
Thanks,

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
Jay try this,
Loosely mount the sway bar to the center mounts then put a jack under the lower control arm. Jack up the lower control arm to align the bar to the arm and try to slip the bracket on. Use a pair of channel locks to "squeeze" the bracket to the arm. You should be able to get the bracket close enough to the arm to start the nuts.
Yes I know a royal pain in the ass....

Re: Fall/Winter/Spring Projects for Fiona
Jay:
I came across your post. I want to alert you to a possible installation mistake
I am not an expert but I was very careful when removing the factory balljoints and took pictures:
This picture shows the bottom side of the upper control arm. The base outline of the old ballpoint is plainly visible. The lower BJ also mounts to the bottom of the lower arm. You have yours mounted to the upper side
With the weight of the car on its wheels, that balljoint is trying to be pushed out (held by 3 bolts) rather than pushed against the arm. A close look at a picture in my workshop manual confirms this. Go here: https://www.autoricambi.us/product/SU3- ... ...another confirmation
A PITA to change it, but probably critical that you do!!
