Exhaust temp guage

Post by n10zf8 »

In my 72 I have an exhaust temp gauge. What purpose does it serve and would it be important to keep? It is not currently connected to the sensor on the exhaust manifold, I was considering swapping the gauge out and putting in clock but I am not real sure if that's the best idea.

Your thoughts are appreciated
Thanks in advance,

an exhaust temp gauge? Can you post a pic, I've never seen one in a Fiat. Was it turboed at one time?

Mark,

Here is the gauge - carburetor non turbo 2.0L Image
Here is the sensor on the exhaust manifold Image

Beats me I thought this was strange but not a spider guru, yet. :D

Exhast temp guages are used for tuning the engine. Normlly at 6" from the engine. Mostly used on rotory engines and desiels. They tell you when you are too lean and in danger of hurting the engine. Hot is lean and cool is rich. Not real usefull on your engine as a air fuel meter works much better.

They were used before wideband oxygen sensors were available. Not uncommon on small airplanes, but
not very useful in a daily driving Fiat.
