vick performance exhaust

Post by psg »

Just purchased, header 4-2-1, down tube, center section and performance exhaust from Vick. I have a '78 and I am wondering if anyone has installed this set up. I have everything up under the car but it doesn't seem to fit and I am wondering if trimming some lengths is routine? It hangs about 6 inches below the car and the welded muffler hanger straps are about 3 inches passed the stock body hangers. psg

I don't have that, but I would just call VIck's and talk with them or send an e-mail. They have been very good getting back and helping me. Certainly don't cut stuff until you talk with them...

we installed one that a customer brought to us. It "fit" like yours, 6" too low and with the down pipe angled underneath the transmission. It took the better part of a day to make that thing fit the car

I ended up buying the header and down pipe combo from a member here ( Brand New ) Mark he ended up buying one of yours. But for 150.00 I could not pass up the deal, I have a friend that owns a Muffler Shop I am going to trailer the car over too his shop let him work his magic for me.

Talked with Vick, they feel confident their header, which is having a cross member clearance issue, was cut and welded correctly. They are asking me to consider loosening the motor mounts and transmission mount bolts and resetting the engine position. I have only removed the engine one time and I don't remember there being much play to gain a quarter to a half inch. Am I mistaken?

My other question is it possible to push the cross member forward to gain the clearance?

On another note the various sections do have to be trimmed to fit. It does not clamp into place. This is not a plug and play set up. :? psg

Is it possible to take a few pictures and then email Vick's. even a short video might help your case.

I don't think you can muck about with the cross member, it's in the one position.
Too bad about the screw up, must be frustrating having bought a part like this and not have it bolt on with out issues.

Makes one wonder where the original piece one fabricates the replacement parts came from.
Going to be interesting for me in the coming weeks. Just ordered a trailer hitch for my Passat...they think it will fit :?

My issue is that I would never expect new parts to fit in with existing parts without some "tweaking" however, it is beyond frustrating when new parts (that need to be assembled) do not fit properly amongst themselves. Either way, moving forward and have learned. Loss of my business going forward.
