Well I got two original style 73 mounts already they are shorter than the later ones so Ill put those in. While I got the car in the air to start transmount I found a chuck missing in the doughnut so out came the drive shaft that also had a bad center bearing rubber. Im gong to install the driveline I took out of the 75 as its in better shape and dig up a jelly filled doughnut and one for the car. Rear pinion splines are leaking so probably go ahead and removed and silicone the splines on that too. Always something! Got some engine rebuild in a can, paint. on. got the old booster hose off and parts cleaned up.

AAR valve was taken off and cleaned. I think it will be ok. Air box top painted and MAF back on and on the car. Filter does not sit good in bottom plastic box. Box seems a little warped. Got all the brake lines to come loose on the master so its ready to change out but somehow I forgot to order the single reservoir unit.

Got to get

Brake Resevoir
Timing Belt
doughnut
more 14mm vacuum hose and smaller vacuum hoses
oil filter
coolant
put FI hose and clamp on electric fuel pump under car ( found regular hose clamps on it. )
change trans and rear axle oils.

And I did find a later model fiat hub and wheel in the trunk of the parts car so score for me. No good doughnut though.

So that's it for tonight. hope to do more tomorrow after work. Hurry up time change!

U-joints OK in every direction? They are a PITA to R&R, but they're inexpensive, and this may be the only chance you get to replace them. See the topic "Project Creep" in this forum, detailed at length.

The shaft I took out would need them as the rear was notchy. My old 75 shaft is solid and smooth. I know I done one years ago and something reminds me I didn't want to again. Not bad if you got a nice big vise and big work bench.

The dash will be made and stained in a like color. Still got to get the old girl going.

On a curse of project creep, the saga continues. Tonight I got home and had a new temp switch waiting for me so Installed that. While I was at it I decided to check timing belt marks and as per another owner I ran into something interesting. The Cam holes dont line up but someone marked the back of the intake pulley and that mark does line up. Also I never worked on a 2.0 and seems the timing marks are on the right side of the engine with a small pointer over there that really does not line up either. I confirmed TDC with screw driver and pics below show where cams are sitting. Problem is I dont know where the intake is suppose to be anyways.

So can someone look at the pics and give feed back?

IS the 2.0 timed from the right side?

I think someone must have put on a different intake pulley its maked with an a and as I remember that is a intake cam wheel.

Distrib position seems just past #4 on cap:

To answer any questions, yes a new pickup coil, cap, rotor, plugs are coming. Also drained the rear axle oil and SUPRISE  small metal bits of possible bearing material found. Have a rear end in the 77 parts car so that will need drained and check for bits of metal. If good then Ill swap the rear end over later. Owners who neglect cars should be forced to public transit!

Forgot to add this is the only pointer I could find on the right side near crank. Is this correct? What year do you think this is off of? I guess my timing cover off the 77 would be useless for timing purposes.

Where are all the GURUS at? Any case I found that someone must have drilled a separate hole. Maybe they thought the OE one was a little loose? Once its bolted down its not moving. So here are some pics. I marked in red paint before I took off so I know where it was at. I don't know how they determine where to line the cams back up but they were close but off a few degrees. I put it back on in the factor dowel location and lined all the other points up. Seems lime the cams are correct.

I have a good spare motor so I just took the pulleys off that one. They seem lighter anyways. Also stooled the timing cover off it and painted it up. Both tensioner bearings were frozen on the shafts so had to take both off completely which means taking the water pump pulley off. Able to drift pulley off and clean up shaft and base. New timing belt and bearing on the way. I should do the seals but that's another time, too many other things going on. Going to take radiator to shop for clean and rod out. Don't like the small radiator with the big engine but tried to put the 1800 one in and way too tall. Ill see how it cools when its running.

Took the distributor out for rebuild. Got it apart and cleaned. New bearings and seal in now waiting for orings to assemble. In the mean time I can opened the vacuum advance as I had before and used some epoxy that stated it would do rubber and repaired the tear. Its now drying and should be ready for assembly.

Got the new master cylinder on waiting for single reservoir to finish. Tomorrow I think I will try to get the rear trans mount, engine mounts and intake back on.

Pics for your enjoyment:

Two holes WTF

Installed on OE dowel location and you can see after resetting cams the red mark is now slightly off. They didn't do a good job at the guess redill and white marking locations.

Pic of my good 1800 wheels I ended up using just because.

No I love wood wheels and always put them in my cars. I would have got another Nardi like I put in my last one but they wanted too much for the ones on Ebay right now.

new box arrived today and picked up some seals. I told myself I wasn't going to replace them this go around but I must love to punish myself. Changed the cam seals tonight and tried to brake loose the crank nut - no go. Will try and impact in the morning on it. I got the distributor rebuilt and back together also.

Dropped the radiator off to have taken apart, roded out and cleaned. It still has the small radiator and worry about it cooling the larger motor. It had some nasty rusty water in there from sitting.

Hope to get more accomplished tomorrow with having all weekend to work on it. Probably will punish myself some more and yank the rear axle out of the 77 and put in mine...
