spark plus and head problem?

Post by redruby76 »

Is it common for the 1976 spider to blow the plug out of the head? Will a helicoil fix it? thanks.

You can do a helicoil without pulling head. If you choose not too pull the head then I would rather not see all that AL shavings in cylinder, bring that pistonTDC and afterwards take a shop vac use a small rubber hose ( tape n in the end of the shop vac hose ) so that its only sucking through that small rubber hose put it in the hole to get any metal that may make it on top of the piston.

it's not common and a helicoil might fix it if the spark plug hole isn't too far oversized

I'm thinking i should take the head off instead. Fix it and fix it right maybe a better way? i worry about not gettin the AL out with vac. :?

#4 cylinder is common to be cross threaded. this will cause the plug to blow out of the head sometimes. it is very easy to repair the head with an insert, it will be stronger than original, look at the "garrions head" thread.

That was my next question. how long it would take to do the helicoil? hour and half sound good, which was stated on the last post.
Another question? How long would it take to pull the head off and do the helicoil?
I ordered some new manuals so just waiting for them to arrive too get started. thanks
