Trying to cool engine bay

Post by surfingfreeman »

Have Mark's header and it gets quite "warm" under the hood, I don't want to wrap the header, cold I somehow vent/duct air from the grill and direct it at the header? Any other ideas? Will adding that outside air displace the warm air under the hood? Thanks.

We routed cold air to the headers once, it routed the now hot air to the coils and fried them. So you have to be careful where the hot air ends up. If it is not causing other problems I would not worry about it.

Surfingfreeman, I have three holes drilled to the right of my passenger side headlight behind the grill. This allows the engine to get more cold air at speed and helps keep things cool. The engine compartment is actually about 10 - 15 degrees cooler with the added air flow. The holes can not be seen from the outside unless you are looking real close to see if they are there.

Hey thanks TX
Sounds like a good idea! Are you also running headers? I do have a hole drilled to feed cool air to my K&N air filter so I don't see why I couldn't add a couple more. A bit more extreme would be to cut those front sections out of the hood bubbles to allow for more cool air but then we are talking much more $$$$

Surfing freeman, I'm running Vicks headers with no issues. You could also design a snorkel under the car to push air onto the headers with less expense than cutting the hood or side. Consider a wheel well? I've stayed away from this for the aerodynamics and possible whisling as air enters the tube.

Pete, I'll have to take a pic tonight if time allows and post. Need to return a craftman worklight that I picked up at Sears that worked all of 10 minutes.

I think Pininf has the right idea.
It's possible that you may need to let the hot air OUT. As opposed to letting more cool air IN.

With respect to cooling an engine in general, if you allow too much air in and not enough out, the hot air will just back up under the hood and cause things to get even hotter.

If there were some classy add on vents that could be made functional in the sides of the front fenders, I would install those instead of opening up more inlet air.

Maybe model the vents to be like what are on our Spiders big cousin from Ferrari.

Thanks Roy Batty,
Ive been shopping around for the right vents and when I find them they will definitely be installed
Spot on we need to lose the hot air.
