274 FI cam valve clearences

Post by narfire »

Hey Mark. If you see this, what were the clearances for your 274 FI cams? I have the sheet at work with the numbers. I'm puttering with the engine trying to get the idle to smooth out and also trying to figure out why the all of a sudden difficult to start issues. Already changed out the leaky brake booster to a known good one.
I have the covers off and will check today before I watch Seattle spank Washington...

I'd set those at 010 intake and 012 exhaust

Thank you.
Think some are tight so time to get the shims out I guess.

Just measured. good news is #4 exhaust is .012 :) don't have to muck with that PIA shim.
Intake varies .006 to .008 and other exhaust .008 to .010.
I'll re-shim over the week.
The engine is cold, about 34 deg F in the carport. Does the clearance change much when the engine > buckets/shims get warm/hot?

you can run them at 008 and 010. Tighter clearances will give more top end power, loose clearances move the power down a bit lower
