Hello fellow fiat lovers, I am a new member from California

Post by Looie72 »

Well ; after purchasing a 72 fiat spider 3 years ago, I finally got around to work on it. I will be posting pics soon of my little red spider which I am totally in love with. I have so many plans for this car, I really don't know exactly if I will ever be completely done with it . So far I just want to get it running again and get it back on the road as a weekly driver. I just hope it turns out as good as some of the other members stunning beauties.

talk to you all soon.

Welcome to the forum. Being an owner of 2 72s and a 71, I'm not biased to think they are the best years for Spiders! Please post pics when you get a chance.

Yo, Looie, Welcome to the forum. A couple of us traveled right by you when we got together to form the So Cal chapter of FLU. You're in a good location for those rides and functions. Have you joined yet? Look into it, it's a great group. Looking forward to seeing your car, mine is red also, so I think you have a beauty.

:D Ok, so this week I changed all my fuses, put in new battery cables, pulled out cleaned & re gaped the spark plugs, put in a new fresh battery, added gas to the carburetor and cranked the engine over. What a sight, my baby came back to life!! Its the best feeling in the world when you can savor the fruits of your labor. I also installed a prestone flushing kit and completely cleaned the cooling system. let it warm up to 195 deg. and my fan kicked on. Man I am really lucky that it all went so well. Checked my lights and everything seems to work except my turn signals which I think its my turn signal switch. I took the car out for a test drive and everything went well until the third or fourth time around the block; the car started to buck right around 5000 rpms or fourth gear, so I decided to check the fuel filter and sure enough the darn thing was really orange colored. I went to the parts store and got a new filter, changed it and drove it again; It ran fine. So this week I plan on removing the gas tank and cleaning it out completely and I'm also going to work on my brakes because although they work they feel very mushy. I will try to get some pictures too, but right now my focus is on getting it road worthy, specially with the price of gas going up again. Talk to you all soon.

Looie, check out the "Club Forum" section at the bottom of the main index page. There is a get together, BBQ coming up next weekend at Griffith park. This is the 2nd meeting of the newly forming So Cal chapter of FLU. Come on along. It's great to spend time with fellow Fiaters.

Let us know what kind of parts you need. Most of us have a parts car and can't seem to throw away even old and worn out parts.
Nice car, btw! :D
