Which intake gasket

Post by srwilson »

I'm switching my dual plane intake on my 79 to a single plane intake from a 76. My question is which intake gasket should I use? On the IAP site I see two different ones 4406114 & 419406.

It looks like the 419406 used up to 78 and then 79 carb'd switches to 4406114. I suspect it's for the EGR??

Trying to get my order in by the end of day to get the 10% off. So if anyone can quickly respond I'd really appreciate it! I suspect either will work. :)

Thanks
Steve

if you are doing away with the egr on the exhaust side then the 78 and earlier gasket will be fine. the egr passage in the head is just that a passage open from one end to the other with nothing internal other than the passage. so if the exhaust side is not hooked up and the intake side is not hooked up it becomes inert. the exhaust side is easily stopped by putting a solid steel gasket between the tube flange and the manifold

Ok thanks! That is what i was thinking. I'll stick with the 2000 gasket for now.

you will need to block off the flange on the pipe to the exhaust manifold with a solid gasket. you will have an exhaust leak on the intake side of the head if you do not.

Got ya. I'll be sure to do that when I make the switch.

I'm hoping to get a little better performance with the installed 32 ADF and the single plane manifold. I'm not sure what to expect with the combo but I'm thinking it can't hurt. Plus if I'm ever able to come across a 34 ADF I'll already have it setup.

Thanks for your help on this! :D
