oil pan replacement

Post by spiderbob79 »

hi guys
I just received an oil pan I ordered from Auto Ricambi for my 79 spider with the original engine. The engines
on an engine stand and I tried to install the pan but the holes don't line up.They aren't off by much, but if I
get a bolt or 2 on the front the rear of the pan seems to hit the edge of the rear bearing cap.I also have a problem
with the new pan gasket.I bought the gasket set for a complete rebuild from IAP a few months ago and when I tried
to use it every thing seemed to match up except the front of the gasket. The holes at the front end are too close together
an
d its shaped kind of odd.Would appreciate any thoughts if anyones had the same problem.

Thanks

I'd say that either the engine is something other than the original '79 or AR sent you the wrong part. If you haven't already discussed this with AR I'd suggest you do so. They are usually pretty good about making sure the parts they send fit properly.

Bruce, thanks for the reply. The engines the original,#'s all match, had it since 85.
bought from original owner with @30,000 miles on it,has @48,000 on it now.Its
been sitting in the garage for 10 years or so with the firewall tear problem.Haven't had time to
work on it till recently.Going to call AR on monday, they're out until the 31st for
the holidays.Suppose I could just widen the holes, they're just a we bit off but i'll
talk to AR first. My main problem is the gasket,I called IAP and he said they hadn't had
that problem before and he'd send me a new one but he won't have any until april or may.
I'm going to try to past a photo ifm I can figure it out again.

Can anyone figure out what this one is for?I'll probably just see if Vicks has a new one.

Thanks!

I'll post a photo of the whole gasket,I just offset it so you could see the difference in the hole alignment.
