Since getting my spider I find it really difficult to brake without hitting the accelerator pedal. I only have size ten feet but I have had to develop a technique whereby I roll my right foot sideways and then hit the brake pedal.
My question is this: has anyone modified the pedals to get around this? Options are to change the height of the brake pedal or shift the accelerator pedal to the right as far as I can see.
I would have posted a pic of my foot but I haven't cut my nails in a while and someone may be eating breakfast while reading this.

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
I agree with you, they are way too close together. I though about modifying the brake pedal to put an inch or so of offset in it, but haven't done it yet. I guess I just got used to driving it this way. I am a little worried that the offset would create some side forces in the bearing, but I suppose if it was only an inch or so it would be ok. I think even an extra inch would help a lot.

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
An extra inch is always a good thing. I was thinking of bending the accelerator pedal arm as this is connected to a cable and would allow for a bit of extra play.

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
The accelerator on mine is really close to the tunnel and I don't think I could safely move it any closer to get it away from the brake.

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
I bent my clutch pedal and brake pedal over about 1/2-1 inch. Works so far and took away the brake/gas pedal issue to some extent.

No, you don't. I wear size 12 and I have had to work very hard to learn not to hit the wrong pedal. I also wear my skinniest shoes when I drive the Fiat.

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
I find the shoes do matter. A slip on or driving style shoe like a soccer shoe works great. However, a running or cross trainer with a rubber wide sole for better stability can create a problem on the pedals. Do you remeber the funny little Italian dress shoes we wore back in the late 70's through mid 80's.

I've never had a problem in 255000 miles, and I wear 11 1/2 - 12.

I have almost no issues and I drive my spider to work in nice weather wearing size 13 steel toe work shoes.

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
my size 12s in cross-trainer type athletic shoes are too wide to comfortably and skillfully operate the pedals. Got a pair of red Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars as a Christmas gift from my daughter. Not only are they a stylish match to the spider's red paint and make me look youthful and cool, but their narrow construction precludes pedal difficulties. terry

Re: Do I have Frankenstein feet?
I wear a 12 and defintely have an issue if I wear the wrong shoes.I bought some narrow Puma driving shoes and they help a lot.I also put some MOMO pedal pads that were narrower tha the stock units. We bent the pedals on the Lemons racer,to accomodate the feet a bit,but it is very hard to heel/toe a Fiat because of the pedal placement.
