Weber 32/36 DFEV

Post by lm48 »

What jets size your are running? My engine is 2L with 1800 head and free flow system. With the factory setting on the carb at high speed the spark plugs will be grey but in the city will be close to black. At starting with the chock on will be very reach with black smoke. I replace the primary mix jet with .04 and secondary with .050 . Even so I had black smoke with the chock on. I block the choke and no more black smoke at idle. Any help?

On most Webers you can adjust the choke by loosening some screws and turning the whole choke mechanism.

I went back in the garage and loose all the bolts holding the electrical choke and sure the whole housing will turn, so I did a very mild choke, in Florida we don't need much. It started right up and run smoth. Final test tomorrow in the morning. By changing the primary and secondary mixture jet one size down I did lost a lot of power. Can I get power with out smell?

Do you mean main or idle jets? What mains do you have now?

The original jets are:
Primary Main jet. 1.40 mm
Primary air corrector jet. : 1.70
Secondary main jet : 1.40 mm
Secondary air corrector jet. : 1.60 mm
Primary idle Jet : .60 mm
Secondary idle jet. : .50 mm

I replace the the primary idle jet with .50 mm and secondary idle jet without .040.
After the switch I feel that the car idle better and start easy when is hot , smell less, but feel also slower on quick accelerations.
I also manage to find out how to adjust the chock.
Today I ask a friend to look at my exaust for any smoke under heavy acceleration on first gear. Yes, there is black smoke visible.
Do I should go one size down on the primary and secondary main jets?

I would try a 130 for the primary main jet and see how it does.
If it smokes for just a few seconds on acceleration, then it could be too much accelerator pump. The linkage usually has 2 pivots to change how much the lever moves.

I was about to buy an A/F gauge and an oxygen sensor even if my car is not having one. Looks to me that is the easy ways to monitor the mixture over all the rpm range. With the existing Main jets when I drive for long time at 80 mph the spark plugs are grey. I will call you tomorrow for some jets. Thank you . The acceleration test was done with the "pedal to the metal"

Just took my carb apart and the specks where a little off. On the primary main I have 1.37 and primary air corrector jet is 1.65. The rest is matching the specks. Timing is set at 10 degree at idle. Thank you
