Valve Adjustment Tool

Post by srwilson »

I had read somewhere that the valve adjustment tool could not be used on the #4 cylinder. Is this for all the tools out there or just some tools?

If this is not true for all tools then let me know which one I should get that will work on all cylinders.

If this is true then what is done to remove the shim from #4 cylinder? And if whatever this other method is why is it not used on the others?

I would imagine that the tool makes it a lot simpler to do the work on the remaining 3 but still does not answer the question on #4.

Thanks!!!

Any motor with the dizzy on top has an issue with the casting interference. I think it is #3 exhaust. I have pictured the 2 tools i made for the job.

The tool does work for #4 exhaust...it is or can be a pain. I found it takes a bit of fiddling , usually sliding the tool in kind of sideways and then rotating up. Once it is in, take note on the easiest way it comes out..reverse for instalation.

Nice set of tools! It's always interesting to see what others will come up with to do a job. The modified crescent tool is awesome. I have no idea what it does but it certainly looks functional. :P

Since I'm pretty sure azruss's tools would be hard to replicate  (for me anyway) where might I be able to find the tool you pictured?

Several of the vendor sell the tools, however they are remakes of the original and reportedly don't work as well do to slightly changed geometry of the bends and such.

If you have dimensions and don't mind sharing I might try my hand at creating the tool myself.

And If you are successful I would be interested for sure as long as the cost was not to high. Keep us informed!!

I can't remember if mine came from Vicks or IAP. It works fine.

The one on Vicks and IAP look to be the same. I've seen that version in other places too, and I'm sure they'll work or they wouldn't keep selling them. But if there is a version out there that doesn't have the issue with the dizzy hump at or around the same cost, I'd rather have the tool without the issue if I can find it. It looks like Bayless had a different version, closer to the Fiat tool, but I guess they are out of stock on those.

Yeah, for 50+ bucks I want it to do the job for me

Hey, I have an idea! It would be nice if these vendors would include the Shim Tool if you purchased a complete set of shims!! :D

I won't hold my breath on that idea however... :)
