where is located the backlights switch ?

Post by westy64 »

Hello,
everything is in the title.
I guess the beginning of the answer is : on the gearbox.
Is it easy to access, to rewire, etc...
Is it on the top (access under the console) on under the car ?

The white wire for the back lights is hanging in my engine bay...
Is there any trick used to bypass the back lights switch ?

Thank you for your help.

It is on the right side of the transmission. It is located right at the bottom and is very easy to access. Check to make sure the wiring harness isn't disconnected before replacing the switch.

I don't recall any wiring for the reverse light being located under the hood. The wiring goes through the transmission tunnel just above the shift lever (it is underneath the center console).

This last info is just what I was thinking of....
Where should I see the wires appear into the cockpit ?
I understand they run on the tunnel, under the console, and then :
do they go down under the carpet on the driver side ?
do they go towards the firewall to join the main harness ?
any other route ?

I will try to release the lower console and look underneath if I can see anything.

to be followed.

I found the wires, there

I quickly found what I was looking for :
I called the PO at lunch time asking if he remembered if the back lights were working when he sold me the car.
He was not sure, but thought they were very weak, if working.

with this cut, they were definitely be working very poorly.

I hope they will be bright, now.

There are two spades on the reverse switch. Does it matter what wire is connected to what spade? When I tried connecting my two wires, the reverse lights were always on.
Thanks,

I would have thought there was no difference.
You shoud test the switch with an ohmmeter to check that you have 0 ohms (or very close) resistance with gear box in reverse, and max resistance (1 on the screen) in others gears.

If not, the switch is to be replaced.
