Accelerator return spring question

I have a '78 124 and I noticed I do not have a return spring attached to the peddle assembly. In addition I can not find a place for the spring to attache on the car side of the peddle. I looked at a friends '79 and he has a spring as well as a mounting locaiton, where I do not. Did the '78 come with a return spring under the dash? or is the return spring on the bellcrank all I should expect?
