Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
Just wondering what era music you listen to when driving your cars, for instance I run a small radio station here in Savannah and the music I play on weekends during the evening hours is Doo-Wop, alot of people like this music especially the guys that hang out with their muscle cars at the pizza place on our small island, I also play surf instrumental (Beach Boys, Dan & Jean, Tornadoes, etc.) music, along with 70', 80's and 90's music... but I like to listen to Doo-Wop music the most and it's not even my era (my era is the mid 80's to early 90's music) I just had to listen to it during the late 60's/early 70's as this is what was played during my early years by my older siblings, somehow it just goes so well, alot of my friends think so too...
So what's your preference?

No way Mike! I keep my exhaust quiet so that I can listen to the muse while I cruise. Definately do-wop. The Coasters rule!

a radio? thats a fancy option. I pretty much just listen to wind rushing, and exhaust roaring.
That doesn't answer your question, though. I once tried to make a list of ALL car related songs. I got a good list going, but it certainly isn't complete. I gave up, lol.

Who sings that song about "the little old lady from Pasadena" I have a lot of those songs you just posted on a cd my Father In Law made.
Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
GTO by Ronny and the Daytonas. I still catch my wife singing it wrong, even after I told her it isn't "Gee Gee Oh", lol.
Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
Jan & Dean, they had a lot of good hits in the sixties...Danno wrote:Who sings that song about "the little old lady from Pasadena" I have a lot of those songs you just posted on a cd my Father In Law made.
I have most all of the songs of 'surf' instrumental both here ib the states and from Europe... all good stuff.
Kids are now getting this music mixed with Jack Johnson type stuff and they're lovin' it.

Radar Love is my favorite while driving the Fiat but I grew up with classic rock and roll. The Boys Of Summer is also a song that brings back fond memories of cruising the Strand at Myrtle Beach, but I can only listen to the radio while sitting at a stop light because of the dual IDFs.

Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
driving music and car songs are really two different genres. IMHO, doo wop music goes more with 50s era American cars; lead sleds and the like
Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
I reject your reality and insert my own. I think that most car songs are appropriate for driving. or at least driving anything that isn't a fart can teensy wannabee. But I totally understand what you are saying. I think it could be considered weird to be listening to a song about a pink cadillac while driving my blue fiat.So Cal Mark wrote:driving music and car songs are really two different genres. Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
I agree... all manners of music are appropriate, some more than others, so if Doo-Wop is associated with 50's cars, lead sleds, etc., then Ferrari, Masserati, Lamboughini, Fiat, Alfa, etc. are listening to only Italian opera music and the such?
Occasionally I drive the Fiat to these local car cruise-ins and they have Doo-Wop, surf (Beach Boys, etc.), and older/current rock music, alot of the cars are Italian, British, American, Japenese, etc., older and newer cars etc., the music is what brings these drivers together and everyone has a great time... kids through adults.
I enjoy a variety of music (not Rap or teeny bopper stuff), and the sixties music be it Doo-Wop or surf intrumental brings it closer to a spider convertible than any other music.
I grew up in New Jersey and in my early years and remember my family travels going from Asbury Park through Ocean City and the music of the time was surf music along with stuff from Gary Puckett, TheTurtles, etc.... it was a great time in my life and if anything stuck in my head it was this music.

Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
I personaly listen to Lounge, acid Jazz, Italian Jazz.
I recomend an album from the Putumayo collection called Italian Cafe. Its great, not your standard stereotypical O Sole Mio and Mambo Italiano compilation, very Jazzy.
I listen to pretty much every style of music on earth but in the Spider I like to set the mood, kind of imagine im on the Riviera. Somehow Metalica, Pearl Jam and Rage agaisnt the Machine wouldnt sound appropriate in a litle red Italian sports car.
But driving through a tunell well thats almost a religious momment, I stop all conversations, press mute on the CD player and enjoy the exhaust resonate around me. My favorite tunnel is the Ville Marie tunel here in Montreal, its where the movie Driven with Stalone was filmed.

Re: Music you listen to when driving your Spider?
I believe it's related to your car/music experiences. In my mind, driving music has a "driving beat"; music that makes you want to hit the open road and drive all night. Not music that will lull you into a daze. In relating genres of music to particular cars, my memories of growing up was doo wop was popular in the late fifties, early 60's with bowling shirts and lead sleds, low riders. When we were cruising in the muscle car era it was pop and rock-the Doors, Stones, Beatles so that's what I associate with that type of car. To me, doo wop just doesn't fit with import sports cars. To each his own. When I go out really driving, I'll crank up the Meatloaf
