Hey from Utah
Hey! I picked up a 1971 124 Spider last year from my brother-in-law. He discovered it in an overgrown backyard in Salt Lake City and had plans to restore it, but couldn't find the time. I've been working on rewiring the dash (a previous owner had ripped out half the wiring to make room for his 'incredible' sound system...which was never finished...), but my progress has been slow because of weather and lack of Fiat knowledge. I checked out the forums and liked what I saw, so hopefully with some help and a lot of luck, I'll be cruising in my Fiat by the end of the summer!

welcome to the site.
Don't forget to stop and take plenty of work-in-progress pictures. they are fun to look at in years to come when you wanna remember all the hard work that went into your phat ride!!

Welcome to the forum. I'm in the process of repairing my dash wiring harness in my 71. I'll try to take notes in case you need help. If you need pics let me know and I'll try to accomodate you there too.

I grew up in SLC, but have moved about 70 miles north in the last few years. I still go down there to hang out all the time.
I noticed that somebody mentioned that if you have a rust hole behind the pedals, you should be worried. Why is that? I live in a farming community where everybody knows how to weld, so I can get it patched up nice and neat, but is there a structural problem with that kind of a hole? I've already patched up maybe a half a dozen holes in the floor and have a couple left, but if the floor adds to structural strength, maybe I should be looking into a more long term solution than little patches?
I have some more questions that I'll be asking down the road.

because of the uni-body construction.... holes here are an indication of potential issues. before you slap too much work into other areas of the car, best to look at the structural integrity of the floor and surrounding areas.
also, check the shock towers for deterioration as well.

There is a lot of stress where the clutch pedal pivots and has the spring. If it's rusted in that area, it won't hold up to that stress.
