I bought a 77 model this winter that I will be fixing up this spring. It has no rust and runs very well. I need to work on the interior, smooth the body and paint it. It doesn't have bumpers, but as I have been noticing, that may not be a bad thing.
I am hoping to learn from the experienced folks here and to contribute.

Re: Hello from Detroit
Welcome to the forum Leadguy! Looks like you have a good starting point with your car. Have you decided on a color yet?
Be sure to keep us posted on your progress with it. Good luck.

Well, sometime before you landed it, i saw pictures of that specific car for sale. Paisley interior and everything.
Looks like it will be fun to getter back up and on the road.
Detroit, 'eh? Right in the heart of a very large, and the oldest, FIAT LANCIA UNLIMITED chapter. Give them a shout. go to http://www.flu.org or look me up at mbouse@chartermi.net and I will steer you in the right direction.

Re: Hello from Detroit
I bought it on ebay. It was in Kalamazoo.
I already have the door panels to replace that unsightly paisley carpet.
What are the best parts sites? I need the cover for the battery, and a few more odds and ends.
I found what looks like a good parts site at http:\\www.rayce.com

Re: Hello from Detroit
the (2) biggest part suppliers (i thinK!) are http://www.international-auto.com and http://www.vickauto.com.
i've had good luck with both before, but the guys at vicks have been super helpful. they both specialize in fiats/alfas, and both have downloadable online catalogs. vick is out of texas, iap is out of virginia.

Re: Hello from Detroit
new parts verses used parts verses reclaimed stuff we can help you with.
lots of us reclaim and part out old cars that have lived a full life. if you are concerned about non-maintenance, non-wear items like the battery box, then I would read the 'for sale' advertisements on forums like these, and post your wants in the same type places. personally, i have a small stash of stuff, but not a battery box. what else do you need?
other lovingly used and reclaimed stuff can be had from some of our regular vendors. http://www.midwest124.com sells some used stuff, and some new. http://www.fiatparts.com does the same thing. each specializes from time to time.
New wear items and maintenance items are generally fairly easy to find. i will list SOME of my favorites in no particular order:
http://www.vickauto.com visit on line for a paper catalogue and internet shopping
http://www.fiatparts.com visit on-line for a downloadable catalogue and internet shopping
http://www.international-auto.com visit on-line for a paper catalogue and internet shopping
http://www.midwest124.com visit on line for internet shopping
http://www.baylessfiat.com visit on line for internet shopping
i've not personally used the vendor you mentioned; which means nothing other than i have not used them.
and of course, once you start looking for specialty stuff like tops or wheels, or performance brakes or exhaust, then you need to look in other areas. We all have our own favorites in many of these areas too.
i would really like to suggest that you hook up with someone from either of the two FLU chapters in Michigan, prolly FLUID would make most sense, considering you are from Detroit. they have over 70 folks on their roster who love to eat, breathe, and think Fiats. you don't know, there might be someone in the next block who is a member.
kalamazoo, eh? i forgot where i had seen it. any chance you bought it at Turin SportsCars?
