Changing my 32 ADFA out for a 32/36 DFEV

Post by Lezumba »

Hi Guys
I have a 1978 spider
I am planning on changing my 32 ADFA out for a 32/36 DFEV soon, but
have a question: The DFEV does not have a fuel return so, is safe connecting the fuel return to the vapor line? My idea is to make a continuous loop.

no! you can just plug the return, with no ill effects, dont forget to plug the line on the car! or you might wake up with a fuel spill one morning

the vapor lines go to different places.

or you can use a fuel filter with a return port on it and just connect the fuel return hose to the filter

Do as Mark describes. He had recommended a chrysler fuel filter which has a bypass port as part of the unit. I installed his 32/36 carb about two years ago and it's golden. Unfortunately the model number of that part (Fram I believe) excapes me. I just stored my car off site or I would go to the garage and look.

OK, I was wrong. I went through my 124 stuff and found the package for future reference. The brand was "Luber Finer" and it was purchased at AutoZone. Model number is "FF3421" and below that number is "G474". The packaging kind of looked like it would be fram but it wasn't.

It was stated in a thread long ago that by bypassing the fuel using this type of filter takes some load off the fuel pump. Like I said earlier, my spider runs perfect.

Good luck bro

I did the same swap and I am really happy with the carb. I recommend a spacer - I used this 12mm from IAP,

All my original linkage still hooked up properly with the 12mm.

Bought the carb from here:

I am not sure how smog works in NY, but this carb won't pass smog visual (it has NO emission controls) if you have to do such a thing.

Good luck.

One more thing...you have to change your air cleaner The 78 has an oval mount, whereas the 32/36 had a oval/triangle mount. I used my original 1600 air cleaner and it fit perfectly. Otherwise, mount a lunch box top that fits. Did you go forward yet?
