Fuel Surge / Surge tank

Post by divace73 »

G'Day All

I have a 1980 FI model and get fuel surge when cornering once my fuel is low, do other FI owners experience this at all?
I have been considering installing a surge tank but the $1M Q is where to put it, obvious answer is the boot but it is unsightly and will get in the way for normal use???
Opinions anyone??
Cheers David

What capacity size swirl pot were you thinking of Divace?

You could use the spare wheel well, have the pot mounted forward and right in the well so if it does protrudes floor level it wouldn't be too bad as it will be off to one side.
Carry a can of finileak instead of a spare wheel or you could use a 12' rim off the 126 as a kind of "space saver" type of spare. You have to check if the 126 rim would clear your brakes, not sure on this. Does the new 500 have a space saver spare, this could provide caliper clearance if the 126 one is a fail.

Between the battery and shock tower on left side, directly above fuel tank, quite easy to install.
Just need some hoses and a generic low pressure pump to feed it

most probably a 2L, I imagine that should be enough??
I did just get myself a 15" space saver ready for a bigger brake upgrade

I was kinda hoping to avoid putting it exposed in the boot.

What are peoples thoughts of having it in the engine bay??
