latest update-rad guy says core is fubar-just placed an order for $200+...just heater stuff. spent the last coupla hours drilling out rivets and refurbing heater valve just to notice a casting void in the body of valve. guess i shoulda took advice when given. live and learn. this heater valve has a thermocouple looking lead on it. what is that about? can't figure that one for the life of me. was kinda wound around underneath the core. and the valve didn't flow very much, either.

i had a 68 or 69 coupe with that. It also had a small electric heater coil as well. my guess is it was designed to heat electrically until the radiator got warm. still have the unit somewhere.

The thermalcoupling were great when working. I have had two cars with them. What they do is you set the temp where you like it and it keeps it there on its own. When you start the car and it is cold the valve goes wide open and as the car warms up it closes the valve some till it gets to the temp you like. Sadly you can't get them any more.

now that kinda makes sense. i tried heating it up w/a small propane torch and it didn't seem to move the valve either way open or closed. when the valve was pulled to the wide open position, it still wouldn't flow much coolant at all. and if the wifey is gonna ride in it this time of year, it better have some heat.

Kinda getting cool here. Glad you got heat. I have heat as long as I'm not at high way speeds. I guess I need to work on that.
