Well the story is that the new belt I received turned out to be the wrong one for the 2L engine (too short :x ) so I got the right one from Auto Ricambi (great supplier! :D ) and installed it and the alignment is still not able to be set perfectly, due to the placement of the teeth on the belt. I chose the position closest to the mark (don't remember if it was left or right, but I think left for the exhaust side, dead on for the intake side, according to the pointers) and installed it and the car runs really well. There is no other alternative to this position compromise other than springing for adjustable cam pulleys, which I have not done. This car a is a rather sedate cruiser for me and the wife. But anyway, bottom line is I chose the closest position to the marks that fit and it runs great now.

BUT the biggest improvement I have made in basic engine operation is the refurb of the AFM. Man did that make a difference! There are recent posts here about that and I would recommend it for the FI cars for sure.

Thanks RRoller.

Did you do the modification of the AFM or just get it to specs? Did you use this article? http://www.hiperformancestore.com/Ljetronic.htm

Never mind. It looks like we posted at the same time.

I am trying to find but can't seem to locate the link to the Porsche 944 AFM manual on this, it had a lot of detail about the adjustment to the wiper arm to get it out onto fresh resistive material. Anybody have this link? It has been bouncing around the forum for awhile.

I think that video is a long winded way of doing it, I manage to adjust the PCB a little which gave it a new track and worked a treat.
Cheers David
