problem with door lock

Post by csi2000s »

Hi all,
I have a 1974 spider. When I lock the door on the drivers side, it seems to lock properly but when I press the button on the door handle to check that it is indeed locked it still opens the door. It is there some kind of adjustment to do or is something broken and needing replacement??
Thanks
Angelo

Why are you locking the door on a vehicle that to enter you need only to grab the window and pull (amazing how easy glass is to break when you can grab one of the edges) or use a knife to cut the top?

My advice is to make sure the trunk lock works and put anything valuable in there with a battery disconnect.

I know that's not what you wanted, but it's all I got!

It gives me something to do on the car. I haven't needed to fix anything on it for 5 years now after it was restored. It's completely reliable and sorting the door lock will give me something to do on the weekend

You are my new hero. I wish my car was in the state that I even cared about door locks.

I own a 1980 and the locking mechanism is the normal handle on the interior that you push down instead of up which is used to open the door. Is that the same way it works in an older model? Or are you saying that you do that, then shut the door and when you use the outside handle it opens anyway?

It's a 1974 model with the older style door handle which has button where the key goes in. After it looks like it's been locked I push the button again and hear a click and then it still opens. I'm not worried about the inside door handle just the fact that I'd like the exterior lock to work when I've got the top up and parked the car. I'd like to have some sort of security rather than have the door just open with no lock at all.
