The drivers side of my 76 1.8L engine has quite a bit of oil on it. The passenger side is still pretty clean. I'm trying to find the source of the leak. The mess is concentrated around the distributor blank and where the dipstick enters the engine and the top of the oil filter. I removed the dizzy blank and found that there appears to be an O ring groove on it. Is there supposed to be an O ring on the blank? If so, what size?
If not, do you have any other ideas regarding the source of the leak? I plan on replacing all the seals and gaskets this winter. I've got oil in the #1 spark plug area as well.

make sure the crankcase breather is clean or you'll have oil coming from every gasket and seal on the motor

Re: Distributor Blank O ring?
The dizzy blank has a paper gasket, you can use a distributor gasket there.
The oil could also be coming from the crankcase vent hoses. Use a can of carb cleaner spray to clean the area, and the run the engine and check where the oil is coming from.
